Ohio’s St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Schools Selects Discovery Education to Deepen Student Engagement Wherever Learning Takes Place
SILVER SPRING, MD (Tuesday, March 23, 2021)—Ohio’s St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Schools (SBEP) has launched a new effort to deepen student engagement wherever learning takes place. To support this initiative, SBEP educators will soon begin integrating into instruction high-quality content, ready-to-use digital lessons, and unique collaboration tools that will assist them in creating lasting educational impact. These digital resources are being provided to educators through a new partnership with Discovery Education, the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.
To support the continued academic growth of SBEP’s students, school leaders sought a K-12 digital resource that supports a robust curriculum and meets the evolving needs of learners in all grades. To meet these needs, the district selected Discovery Education’s flexible K-12 learning platform. Discovery Education’s platform connects educators to a vast collection of compelling high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, and professional learning resources. Together, these resources give educators everything they need to facilitate instruction in any learning environment and create lasting educational impact.
Discovery Education’s team continues adding, contextualizing, and organizing exciting new content and timely resources to the platform each month in response to current events and the ever-evolving needs of educators. These resources, sourced from trusted partners, are aligned to state and national standards, and help educators bring the outside world into teaching and learning every day.
Finally, the Discovery Education platform is designed to work within school systems’ existing infrastructure and workflows. Through expanded partnerships with Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, Clever, and others, integrating the Discovery Education platform into existing IT architecture is easier than ever.
“The integration of Discovery Education’s digital resources into teaching and learning will help our teachers bring the outside world into our district’s classrooms,” said Kathleen McFadden, SBEP’s Director of Curriculum, Literacy, and Instruction. “This helps our educators connect what’s going on in the classroom to our students’ future, creating an environment of deeper student engagement that we know will lead to improved academic achievement and future success.”
In addition to the Discovery Education platform, SBEP K-8 educators will also integrate Discovery Education Science Techbooks into instruction. Discovery Education Science Techbooks—which are currently used in classrooms across the United States and Canada—are a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12 that combine digital-first teaching and learning resources to deliver impactful, blended instruction in person or at a distance. Science Techbook can be used in either Spanish or English and optional print Student and Teacher’s Editions and interactive Hands-On Activity kits for use in grades K-8 are also available.
The all-new Discovery Education Science Techbook for middle school offers a phenomena-driven curriculum that puts middle school students at the center of three-dimensional storylines to investigate the mysteries of the universe. Units are designed to continually spark curiosity, prompt questions, and offer students opportunities to engage in engineering practices to make sense of the science around them. The program consists of 16 modular units, allowing schools and teachers to choose the order in which to complete the units based on their preferred pathway.
“We are excited to work with the talented team at Ohio’s St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Schools to help bring these exciting resources to teachers and students,” said Caroline Shea, Discovery Education’s National Partnerships Manager. “Today’s students are at home with digital media and high–quality content, and the new resources coming soon to students districtwide will meet them where they are and ultimately support deeper student engagement and achievement.”
