Jackson Charitable Foundation Announces the 2019 Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest Winner
Olympic View Elementary School in Chula Vista, CA Receives $10,000 to Ignite Financial Literacy and $1,000 for Donation to Student-Selected Cause
Silver Spring, Md. (Friday, February 21, 2020) – Jackson Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit advancing financial knowledge on a national scale, today announced Olympic View Elementary School in Chula Vista, California, as the winner of the 3rd annual Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest.
The Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest presents elementary schools in the United States the opportunity to receive a grant to spark financial literacy education at their school, along with funds designated for philanthropy based on the school’s selection. To celebrate, Olympic View Elementary School hosted an in-school event featuring a check presentation by Jackson Charitable Foundation and an engaging financial literacy activity. As the contest winner, Olympic View Elementary School intends to use the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest grant and donation money as follows:
- $10,000 grant: A student leadership team will learn how to plan and budget by applying the award money toward a school campus beautification project.
- $1,000 donation: The students selected Friends of the Australian Bush, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving Australia’s biodiversity, as the recipient of the charity funds to underscore the importance of philanthropy.
The Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest grant enhances Olympic View Elementary School’s commitment to financial literacy, which includes courses as well as student-led campus improvement projects focused on developing leadership, responsibility, and financial literacy skills.
The annual Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest builds upon a Jackson Charitable Foundation and Discovery Education partnership program, Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids!, offering youth across the country no-cost resources that build critical life skills by beginning high-quality financial literacy education in elementary school. Launched in 2017, the engaging and fun financial education program provides millions of students in grades K-6 with the knowledge, tools, and practice they need to make informed decisions to reach their goals and dreams.
“Jackson Charitable Foundation is committed to empowering young people with fun financial literacy education at no cost to teachers, students, and families,” said Danielle Robinson, Executive Director, Jackson Charitable Foundation. “Congratulations to Olympic View Elementary School for their commitment to financial education for students! We are thrilled to see kids learning the basics of earning, saving, spending, and donating through the 2019 Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest.”
“At Olympic View Elementary School, we are dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and resources they need to be successful in all areas of life,” said Lisa Lines, Principal of Olympic View Elementary School. “As the recipient of the Jackson Charitable Foundation’s 2019 Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids! Contest grant, our students will experience first-hand the positive impacts of financial planning and execution.”
“Discovery Education proudly partners with Jackson Charitable Foundation to empower students with financial knowledge as a cornerstone to success,” said Lori McFarling, President of Corporate Education Partnerships at Discovery Education. “We congratulate the educators, families, and community at Olympic View Elementary School who demonstrated their commitment to this critical life skill.”
