-Registration is Open for the Live, No-Cost, Virtual Experience Transporting Students to the Site of the Annual Canadian Polar Bear Migration-

Silver Spring, Md. (October 28, 2019) – Discovery Education and Polar Bears International, the only nonprofit with a sole focus on polar bears, are again teaming up to present students and teachers with a no-cost Virtual Field Trip to the Arctic Tundra.  Through the magic of technology, participants will be transported to the shores of the Hudson Bay in Churchill, Canada, to witness the annual polar bear migration, investigate the Arctic habitat, and explore the lives and careers of the people that work and live in the polar region.  Discovery Education is the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.

This year, Discovery Education and Polar Bears International are offering students and teachers two ways to participate in the Tundra Connections virtual experience.  During Experience Polar Bears on the Tundra, occurring on Wednesday, November 13 at 12:00 PM Central Time and again on Thursday, November 14 at 11:30 AM Central Time, participants will travel to the Arctic to take a deep dive into that region’s unique ecosystem.  Among the topics students and teachers will explore during this roughly 30-minute live event are adaptations, sea ice habitat, climate change, and of course, polar bears!

In addition to Experience Polar Bears on the Tundra, Discovery Education and Polar Bears International are hosting two live question and answer sessions on Wednesday, November 13, at 1:30 PM Central Time and Thursday, November 14 at 1:00 pm Central Time. During these informal hang-outs Polar Bears International’s experts will answer as many questions as possible about the Arctic and discuss the extraordinary wildlife that makes the tundra ecosystem their home.  Both Experience Polar Bears on the Tundra and the Q&A will be supported by classroom instructional resources designed to help educators maximize these exciting experiences.

For more information and details about free registration, visit the Experience Polar Bears on the Tundra registration website.

“Discovery Education virtual experiences like Tundra Connections allow me to introduce my students to people and places they might not otherwise see,” said Hugh McDonald, a teacher at the Sunrise Ridge Elementary School in Canada’s Surrey School District. “Very few experiences capture all students’ attention like a Virtual Field Trip.  They provide fantastic jumping-off points that connect tightly to what I am trying teach in my classroom.”

Both events will be archived within Discovery Education Experience in both the Polar Bears content channel and the Virtual Field Trip content channel.

“Discovery Education is excited to present the upcoming Tundra Connections Virtual Field Trip to teachers and students worldwide at no-cost,” said Discovery Education Director of Product Development Kyle Schutt.  “Discovery Education understands that these types of events can spark in students a lifelong interest in a particular subject and we encourage all educators to bring their students to the Arctic with us.  Who knows, your class may contain the next great wildlife biologist!”
