Itron and Discovery Education Present the ‘Internet of Things’ Virtual Field Trip Amplifying the Connections Between Innovation and Conservation
June 5th No-Cost Virtual Experience Helps Educators Engage with Students on the Topic of Sustainability in the Era of Remote Learning and Observe World Environment Day
Silver Spring, Md. (Wednesday, May 27, 2020) – In celebration of World Environment Day, Itron and Discovery Education—the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms—present the Internet of Things: Infinite Possibilities Virtual Field Trip, premiering on June 5, 2020. Students and families can register for the no-cost field trip here.
During the completely virtual experience, students in grades 6-9 gain an exciting look at how the internet they use in their everyday lives can conserve natural resources, protect ecosystems, and create safer, more sustainable communities. During this event, students will also dive into the world of cutting-edge smart technology and sustainable innovation by meeting talented real-world STEM professionals.
The United Nations’ World Environment Day dedicates time for the global community to reimagine human’s relationship with nature. This year’s theme, Time for Nature, empowers students to connect the dots between natural resources and human impact by focusing on innovative solutions to today’s most pressing challenges.
“In line with the ethos of the Itron and Discovery Education Conservation Station program, the new Internet of Things Virtual Field Trip was filmed and produced 100% virtually, as to accommodate for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Marina Donovan, Vice President of Global Marketing and Public Affairs at Itron. “On World Environment Day, and every day, we are thrilled to amplify the power of technology as a tool to build innovative sustainability solutions by presenting the future’s leaders with new ideas and real connections.”
“This World Environment Day Virtual Field Trip demonstrates the power of the internet to foster connectivity and unite forces for the betterment of the planet,” said Lori McFarling, President of Corporate & Community Education Partnerships at Discovery Education. “We are proud to partner with Itron to present a dynamic digital learning experience that amplifies the important role young people play in using STEM skills to support the creation of a more sustainable world.”
The Itron Internet of Things Virtual Field Trip builds upon the suite of no-cost virtual learning resources offered from the Itron and Discovery Education educational program, Conservation Station: Creating a More Resourceful World.
